La Cistecca montese
The Montese cheesesteak and the consortium that promotes it, born from the experience of Montese entrepreneurs in US catering, are distinctive elements of the territory. In the recent history of the Monte di Procida community, many have sought and found success in the United States, particularly in the restaurant business. Returning to their homeland, they wanted to bring back and characterize the experience lived abroad by inventing a street food dish that over the last few decades has become a food and wine excellence. La Cistecca obtained the De.Co. - Municipal denomination. A supply chain that involves other businesses, agricultural activities and artisans revolves around this product: from the production of bread to the cultivation and processing of agricultural products, there are many local players who contribute to its realization and its appreciated quality. In 2014 a group of entrepreneurs decided to join in a consortium precisely to protect this sandwich with an ovoid, crunchy, fragrant shape, where the taste of bread cooked on the grill blends with the flavors of beef and the stringy scamorza blends with the aromas of the most varied side dishes of the Montese culinary tradition.
The drafting of a production specification and the filing of a collective trademark identify its quality and uniqueness.
